ISF LAUNCHES NEW REST HOUR RECORD SOFTWARE   

The International Shipping Federation (ISF) is the principal international employers’ organisation for ship operators, representing national shipowners’ associations from 30 countries and about 80% of the world merchant fleet.    

Together with its partner IT Energy, ISF has launched an updated version of its ‘ISF Watchkeeper’ computer program.  ‘ISF Watchkeeper 3’ is designed to allow shipping companies to maintain records of individual seafarers’ hours of work and rest as required by international regulations, including the latest amendments to the IMO STCW Convention that were adopted in Manila two weeks ago.

‘The ISF program allows shipping companies to check, monitor and maintain records of compliance with the complex seafarers’ work hour regimes that have been adopted by IMO and ILO, and which are already being enforced by Port State Control.” explained ISF Secretary General, Peter Hinchliffe.

ISF AND ICS WELCOME STCW CONVENTION CHANGES

ISF and ICS are the principal international employers’ organisation and trade association for ship operators.  Their membership comprises national shipowners’ associations from 34 countries representing all sectors and trades and over 75% of the world merchant fleet.

Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) were today adopted by governments at an IMO Diplomatic Conference in Manila, Philippines.  The International Shipping Federation (ISF) and its member national associations – many of whom were also represented at the Conference – have led maritime employers throughout the comprehensive review process.  ISF’s sister organisation, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), provided technical and operational advice.

“We are confident that the wide ranging package of changes agreed will further enhance maritime training and the seafaring profession, and contribute to making it even safer.” said ISF/ICS Secretary General, Peter Hinchliffe.

ICS AND ISF LAUNCH NEW ISM CODE GUIDELINES  

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Shipping Federation (ISF) have published a new edition of their widely used ‘Guidelines on the Application of the IMO International Safety Management (ISM) Code’ with additional guidance on risk management, safety culture and environmental management.
